Michigan Medicine’s Construction is Back on the Books

Updated: Jun 13, 2021

Michigan Medicine’s Construction is Back on the Books

Like everything else in the world, the construction plan for, and implementation of, Michigan Medicine’s hospital stopped with the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic. As the world starts its creep back to normal, the board has announced that construction of this important facility will be back on track again, sooner rather than later.

The project

Located in Ann Arbour, Michigan Medicine was designing an impressive $920 million facility when the pandemic hit and construction was forced to stop in its tracks for an undetermined amount of time. Now, with the virus levels starting to die down, and vaccines pumping their way into the masses, the facility has just gotten the green light to begin construction again.

The impact of the new hospital

Hospitals have always been valuable, of course, but this is going to be even more so now, with what the world has just gone through. Michigan Medicine’s new facility will help in all sorts of ways, including:

  • The creation of over 260 private rooms: The hospital will create over 260 patient rooms that will be private to allow for families to be close by to loved ones undergoing treatment, but still safe and secure.

  • Replacing semi-private rooms with totally private rooms: Whale smi-private rooms allowed for more patients to be admitted, the pandemic has created compromised safety for both patients and loved ones. This replaces those semi-private rooms with safe and respectful private ones.

  • Additional procedure rooms: For treating and working with patients, top of the line, properly designed procedure rooms will help take the strain off of other facilities.

  • Increased ICU capacity: The ICU proved its worth with the COVID-19 pandemic -- though it’s always been valuable, of course! This new facility will help provide more ICU space for those who need it. Focusing on priority care and enhanced safety for ICU support and capacity, this will help infuse help and security where it’s needed.

  • New, updated equipment: Perhaps most importantly, imaging, procedural, and treatment equipment and supplies will be updated to their top of the line, newest editions. This will provide better care of patients as well as aid medical professionals in doing everything they can within this top of the line facility.

When can we expect it to open its doors?

Right now, the facility itself is in the design stage and everyone is eager to pick up right where they left off. Construction work itself is projected to start in the upcoming months. As far as timing, those managing the construction project expect the doors to open in the fall of 2025 for use.

Timing is everything

Just one of many medical facilities that was forced to stop, and now is starting up again as the world returns to normal, there is perhaps no better time to put time, effort, and money into the concept of building additional medical facilities. In the future, they will help medical staff use their resources and capacities to help fight future illnesses using top of the line equipment and thinking.

All eyes will be on Michigan Medicine’s new hospital, waiting for it to open its doors and offer its new features for all of those who need them!
